1841 1d red-brown from plate 5 lettered I.B. on a hand illustrated wrapper addressed to Chelmsford from London being cancelled by a black Maltese cross and dated on reverse for FE 1 1841.

The letter is from a correspondence from George Cowell, manager of the Albion Brewery in Stoke Newington to his brother Josiah, who occupied the same position at the Well & Perry Brewery in Chelmsford.

This rare illustrated letter in pen and ink contains amusing verses entitled “A piece from my family manuscript to dear Josiah”.
