1864 1d rose-red plate 184 issue lettered C.A. being cancelled diagonally in black manuscript “Lossiemouth”. When the practice of using Scots Local handstamps was officially withdrawn by the Post Office in 1860, some very small and often remote offices, which were not issued with a replacement handstamp resorted to using manuscript cancellations for cancelling local mail that did not pass through the parent office. A rare and most unusual item.
