1878 an envelope with contents written from Tigh-na-bruaich addressed to Edinburgh posted from Greenock and bearing a 1d rose-red issue tied by the Greenock "163" duplex dated for AU 23 78. The reverse of the cover bears the oval "Posted on Board / "Iona" / 23 AUG 1878 / D. Hutcheson & Co" handstamp in purple ink with an Edinburgh arrival mark. This cover was posted a year before Hutcheson became MacBrayne and before the start of the official packet service. Only two examples of this handstamp have been recorded. Bov#850
