1859 an envelope addressed to Kirkwall bearing an 1857 1d rose-red issue being tied by the "Finstown" VIII Scots Local handstamp of the Orkney Islands, which was by error put in the mainland post bag and sent to Thurso, and thus bears the boxed "Missent To Thurso" handstamp in black ink and dated on reverse for AU 18 1859 .
