1931 Post evacuation envelope from St Kilda addressed to Edinburgh bearing a KGV 1½d issue bearing on reverse the McCallum Orme Steamer Co Ltd label with instruction “Finder Please Post”.

The envelope was folded and placed in a later St Kilda “Mail Boat” as they came to be known, which were made of wood with a lid on, and inside was placed about eight letters usually in a bottle or shrunken sheep’s bladder. The “Mail Boat” was put in to the sea by Neil Ferguson, St Kilda’s last postmaster on 12th August 1931. It was later found by a lobster fisherman at Rona Island near Flodda Island, Grimsay by Lochmaddy and posted on from there on 31 AU 31 to Edinburgh. A rare and most unusual cover.
