1883 an envelope written by General Gordon from Jaffa towards the end of his year in the Holy Land, bearing an Austrian Levant 10 soldi issue tied by the "Jaffa" c.d.s. and addressed to Sir William MacKinnon of Balnakil, Clachan, Argyllshire. The cover was carried on the Austrian Lloyd slow line via Beirut to Smyrna, trans-shipped to the express line bearing a 28th NOV datestamp on reverse reaching Constantinople on 1st December with a Clachan arrival for 6th December.
